Write a children’s story book

An exciting competition for everyone aged 8-16 who was born with a cleft lip and/or palate

You may gasp and think I can’t possibly do that, but I know you can!

What we are looking for is a story aimed at a three to five year old child that is about the life of a child with a cleft. You could base it on yourself; using stories from your parents about when you were born up until the age you are now. It can include factual events like surgery and funny anecdotes from growing up; anything you like that you think would be suitable for a children’s story book. You could even make up a character for the book if you wanted; just use your imagination.

The book needs to be no more than 12 paragraphs long (but at least 8 paragraphs long). Each paragraph will need to be about a different event throughout the characters life. Don’t worry about drawings and illustrations because we have someone that will read your words and draw a picture to match the words for the book.

Once we get all the entries in CLAPA will shortlist three and then ask the CLAPA Children & Young Peoples’ Council to decide the winner. The Closing Date is 12th December 2008. The winner will be announced in the spring edition of Left Clip in 2009.

The winner will receive a £50 HMV Voucher and if CLAPA’s editorial board decides to publish the book their name will feature in the final printed version.

So get writing and let your imagination run wild!!!
